What to do in the garden in April

April is a month filled with surprises and is named after the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. It’s the fourth month of the year and starts us off with April Fools Day, Easter week and finishes off with Earth day. We have out together a list of things that can be done in the garden in April :

Plant flowers

Once the sun comes out all the gorgeous perennials will flood nature with their bursts of colour. Daisy’s and sweet peas can be planted in the month of April as they are commonly known as birth flowers for the month of April. Daisy’s symbolise innocence purity and love while sweet peas are aa great thank you.

Tackle weeds and pests

This is the best time of year to keep your weeds under control as the sun and mild weather promotes their growth. They can be sorted out by using weed killer or pulling them out from the root. Snails, slugs and other pests are hanging around and getting ready to munch on your crops. The best approach is to add plants such as marigold, cosmos and dill that will attract some of these pests and will do most of the pest removal for you.

Move indoor plants

As we have now crossed past the worst of the winter, it is possible to give your indoor plants a taste of the fresh spring air. Depending on what your plant likes you can select the right spot for it outdoors or even better a sheltered part of the garden would suit best. These plants should be checked daily to ensure that they are responding positively to the new environment.
